Art and Technology

For my performance art project, I decided to base my artwork off of the video “Naked in New York!”   In the video the man has different things written all over his body.   He then goes on to walk around New York City with these things written all over him.   Although I did not get naked in my video, I did my best to replicate his actions into my own.   I had people from all over Austin Hall write a global issue that they believed to be an important issue in our world today.   Ranging from abortion to policed brutality, my upper body was covered with words and phrases.   I went on to walk around the Vaughn Courtyard with my shirt off to show off what was written on my body.   Many people looked at me like I was crazy which gave me a few laughs.   All in all I had a great time making my performance art piece.

Pyotr Pavlensky "Carcass" 1. We Are All Equal The project that I am working on will be be a short video to show equality. 2. I plan to make an image somewhat close to Pavlensky, but with a more rational approach.  I will go into a a crowded area by the Jersey Shore to go against hate crimes.  I will get friends of mine from different ethnicities and we will walk from one side of Asbury Park to the other together to show that everyone is human. 3. My project will create an image for the people watching it.  It will show friendship between different humans that creates happiness between all of them. 4.  The main themes of my project will be diversity amongst people and hate crimes.  I want to show people that we should all be together as humans.  People today are still seen differently because of the color of their skin and that needs to change. 5. I will be doing this in Asbury Park, New Jersey.  I am going to have five people with me in the video and on

This project was a bit difficult to get done.   I myself had a lot of trouble finding a Xerox machine to begin with.   Once I found the machine in the library, I copied my face, arm, hand, and foot.   After cutting out the black and white pictures I glued them together in a symmetrical way.   I used two pictures of my face in the middle to create the body of my artwork.   Then I took two of my arms to make a base and a top to the work.   My hands and feet were set up around my arms to create the symmetrical piece.   I wanted to make sure that my artwork did not look random. I wanted the project to be pleasant to look at.   Although the project was pretty difficult to get done due to the lack of Xerox machines, I ended up having a great time making my project.

Before making my project, I was very confused on what to do.   I decided to use Microsoft Excel which I found to be very easy. I used some of my favorite colors: green, orange, yellow, red, and a shade of purple.   For yellow, red, orange, and purple I used a two-block width which was different than the green which I used a five-block width. The project was a 30 by 30 grid with diagonal stripes. After I made my grid, I noticed that there was an issue with my project.   The grid was in the shape of a rectangle.   I went through each column of the grid and changed the width from .16 to .50 which made it look like more of a square.   All in all, I believe that my project ended up being a success and I hope to learn more about the subject.
